One of Creole Hip-hip’s more prominent voices and a champion against all forms of injustice, Oz’mosis has renewed his sense of responsibility, using music as a vehicle to engage a generation rising out of Haiti’s trying circumstances.
“I have this dream for Haitian music,” said Oz’mosis, a gifted lyricist and songwriter who combines Afro- proverbs, historical context, Afro-American awareness and Haitian experience in an echoing Creole dialect over vibrating contemporary sounds. “That the richness of it will one day serve as a shining star that sheds light on the Haitian way of life to cultures and people beyond its immediate shore.”
Oz’mosis seems to have absorbed the major events that shaped his life and others around him, developing a state of mind and attitude that seeks to uplift and educate. However, his frustration for a better world is not hidden a bit in his lyrics.
After two Creole Hip-hop albums, Haiti: Love&Politics and Afrikayiti, that didn’t receive the recognition he anticipated or felt like they deserved, he remains focused and stresses the wisdom he gained from that experience. He now understands the process he must undertake to achieve respect and the success he aspires within the Haitian music market and the Haitian community at large.
“Mwen ta swete se pa lè zetwal mwen file/ pou yap wè kijan’l te briye/ kijan’ l te g’anpil rayon/ jan’m te g’anpil rezon/ pou se lè sa yap wè valè’m/ kòmanse etidye karyè’m.”
Simply saying — “ I hope it’s not until I die that people realize who I was, what I represented, and how much potentials I had.”
With the support from close friend and band mate Sly-Uno, Oz’mosis has taken a break from the group Sky’z Da Limit to explore life as a solo artist, keeping himself relevant through collaborative work with bands such as Tokay, Djarara, Tempo, WatchOut, and other well-establish performers, including Gazzman Couleur.
In essence, Oz’mosis hopes his music will continue to be a reflection of his life experience and how the world grandeur turns about. He wishes to express his ever ending views of the political economy of Haiti, go the extra mile to spread a message of hope, and most of all inspire the youth in Haiti and its Diaspora not only through his music and creativity but also through humanitarian efforts.
